Tips for live music and concert photography
Posted by: Chris Garrett in Camera Kit, Photography TipsOne thing I have never considered doing with my DSLR is taking it to a live music concert. Don’t they confiscate cameras at these events? I never dared risk it. My camera phone does not hold up well in low light, practically useless unless the light show is particularly vibrant.
Daniel Boud is not a professional photographer but I read with interest what he has to say about gig photography just because the photographs he has taken are so good. Take a look at his pictures then read his tips. If my pictures came out half as good I would be very happy.

i have taken photos at a lot of gigs and taught myself a bit. So i figure i’ll share what i’ve learned. What follows is specifically thinking about taking photos at concerts but most is equally applicable to any situation indoors with low lighting.

Yes, I know that most large music event in the US don’t allow “professional” cameras (basically anything with a removable lens) but many do allow non-SLR digital cameras. I always try to bring my tiny Casio in!

I imagine it would be pretty tough to get the quality that this guy does with a point and click.
I wonder how my D70 would fare in the moshpit though…

Hah, I for one wouldn’t risk a dslr in a moshpit, for that matter I wouldn’t risk it in riverdance or a morris dancing contest ;O)
