Zooomr as Stock Agency Details

More details of Zooomrs Micro Stock plans have been revealed by Thomas Hawk
at Zooomr we are in the process of building what will soon be the world’s largest stock photography agency. We think we can pay photographers out 90% and still operate our business. We also are going to let photographers set their price on [...]

Zooomr demonstrates “photo portals”

On the Zooomr blog Kris has demonstrated a new feature he is calling “Photo Portals“. Debate whether this is “innovation” or not it is a useful extension to the notes feature we know and love from Flickr. The main benefit is it appears to make linking to other pictures easier. This is something people do a lot but have to do manually juggling html and copy and paste in awkward ways. In theory this “click to see a bit more from this scene” kind of note could bring about a low-tech version of Microsofts photosynth navigation.

Zooomr Launched … and not visibly different

According to the Official Zooomr Blog we should be seeing the much hyped, delayed and anticipated updated Zooomr … anyone notice any difference?

Personally I can’t log in, and I can’t find any “forgot your password” doohickey to help me with it. Would be interested if anyone else has more joy and finds something new. Perhaps all the good stuff is under the hood, or something to do with Geo Tagging or something?

I am glad they managed to get around the denial of service attack that delayed their launch. Some gits out there have a sick sense of humour.

Free Zooomr Pro Accounts

Zooomr are giving away free Zooomr Pro accounts as a tactic to get bloggers to talk about the service. To qualify you just need a blog, any blog, so that means it is free to anyone. Find out more at the Zooomr Blog

One of things that we hope Zooomr will become in the months ahead is the photo sharing site of choice for bloggers to host their images on. Since we’re new though and need to get the word out we thought the best way to get bloggers to use our site, in addition to building killer blogger friendly features, was to invite all bloggers to join Zooomr and give them a free Zooomr Pro account.

My upgrade came through over the weekend, at this point I am more interested in reserving my name rather than moving over from Flickr but I will be reviewing the service after their planned upgrade to version 2 of the service.

Zooomr To Take On Stock Photography Giants?

For quite a while I have thought that Flickr should allow sales of photographs by its users. Flickr as a stock photography library is something I have discussed here before and it seems that since Thomas Hawk joined Zooomr they have been looking at it as a business model…

Here is a titbit from Thomas Hawk’s blog

One of the things we want to do at Zooomr is to help the pro/am photographer monetize their photostream within the photosharing space

Out of everything else going for Zooomr that could be one reason to switch. Zooomr doesn’t offer me anything to set my world alight so I would much prefer Flickr to offer this but if they don’t then Zooomr might be worth a try.
