The Top 10 Best Photography Business Blogs

Since readers of this blog are obviously interested in what makes a successful photography business, I thought I’d share what I consider to be some of the best photography business blogs on the web. Of course, the DSLRBlog Photography Business Blog would make the list, as would the business section of Photocrati’s photography blog. But [...]

Kodak Blogs … kind of

As someone who spends much of his day evalgilising blogging it is nice to see a big company like Kodak embrace blogging, especially as it seems their new blog A Thousand Words is doing a lot of things right, most importantly having their staff blog rather than making yet another bland PR mouthpiece.

A Thousand Words is a place for stories from the people of Kodak. We love what we do, and we want to share our stories about imaging and its power to influence our world. We invite you to join our conversation with stories and images of your own.

So far there isn’t much to see and does have an odd smell of “marketing” about it

When you think of Kodak products in hospitals, you probably think of Kodak’s Health Group. But Kodak digital cameras and printer docks are playing an important role too.

Is it just me or does that read forced? Almost like each post has to have a “todays lesson from marketing dept”. Maybe I am just touchy on this particular subject but I don’t think premature babies are a nice way to sell cameras in such an obvious clumsy way, if Kodak does good work in this area let the story come across without the heavy-handedness guys!

Without that stuff it is a really nice story and one that touches me in a very personal way. The Kodak sales message could have been implied, right now it’s … never mind. I am glad Lauren is doing well, that’s what really matters. Maybe I just have issues.

Hopefully their bloggers real voices will take over before long. Either that or it will bomb, which would be a shame.

Flickr Superstar Interviews

I don’t think I have mentioned this cool blog yet which is strange, I am really enjoying it. The idea is really simple, take popular Flickr users and showcase them and their photography. Simple and brilliant.

If only for the inspiration and exposure to new photostreams, bookmark flickrz.info.Your eyeballs will thank you.

Free Zooomr Pro Accounts

Zooomr are giving away free Zooomr Pro accounts as a tactic to get bloggers to talk about the service. To qualify you just need a blog, any blog, so that means it is free to anyone. Find out more at the Zooomr Blog

One of things that we hope Zooomr will become in the months ahead is the photo sharing site of choice for bloggers to host their images on. Since we’re new though and need to get the word out we thought the best way to get bloggers to use our site, in addition to building killer blogger friendly features, was to invite all bloggers to join Zooomr and give them a free Zooomr Pro account.

My upgrade came through over the weekend, at this point I am more interested in reserving my name rather than moving over from Flickr but I will be reviewing the service after their planned upgrade to version 2 of the service.

The Best PhotoBlogs

I was just sent this Directory of the Best PhotoBlog Sites

Judging from the first page they do seem to have a few I am subscribed to in my own RSS, check it out for inspiration.

Talking about photoblogs in RSS, why the heck do 99% of them not include the image in the RSS snippet? It means I have to click through to the site to see the imagery and most of the time I can’t be bothered.

New Tips Blog

We like our photography tips here at DSLRBlog, we are here to learn and even the most experienced photographer can all learn something new. I was pleased to read in my inbox this morning that Darren the guy behind Digital Photography Blog has started a new blog just for photography tips…

Digital Photography School

Over the two years of that site I had a lot of emails from readers asking for tips on how to use their cameras and came to the conclusion that while there are many millions of digital cameras being bought each year around the world that a very large proportion of those that buy them could be using them to achieve better results.

While I think many of his tips will be beginner level so might not apply to the majority of our DSLR owning readers (people tend to learn the ropes with point and shoot before lashing out the cash on a more complex camera) I would still encourage you to take a look as you never know what nuggets of inspiration might be waiting.

To give you one example, his post on  Getting Horizons Horizontal was something I was pulled up on early by Mark and looking over my contacts photos today should be required reading for many Flickr users!

Best Online Photography Blogs and Magazines

Every day I get my fix of photography and photography news online. While I still buy print magazines and enjoy the trip to the store to buy them it just isn’t enough to satisfy my appetite for all things photography. This is why I am glad when I discover new online treats.

Top photographer blogs

I just followed a link to find Dan Chung the Guardian photographer has a blog. I love finding new photography blogs, it is great to view new well taken photographs and also to read some of the thoughts and techniques behind them.

Dan just upgraded to a Eos 5D so I look forward to reading his assessment of the camera. It’s a more powerful sibling of my own beloved 350d.
