How to write your own photography blog

I’ve noted elsewhere here that having a website is no longer optional for photographers. Clients will expect you to have one. Indeed, many potential clients will never even find you if you don’t have one. At minimum, you need a site that presents an impressive portfolio of your work, and provides a bio and contact information for potential clients.

But I’d push you to move beyond simple site design and think creatively about all the other content you might add to attract people to your site, enhance your reputation, and increase your income. While the types of content you might add are limited only by your imagination, you might start by considering things like blogs, reviews, or advice. Flickr Launches Commons

What can be achieved when you combine thousands of images, tags and photographers? Flickr thinks they have the answer with their Commons feature. Check out the info over at the Flickr Blog

What if we could lend this wonderful power to some of the huge reference collections around the world? What if you could contribute your own description of a certain photo in, say, the Library of Congress’ vast photographic archive, knowing that it might make the photo you’ve touched a little easier to find for the next person?Well… you can.

Announcing The Commons.

Their first stab at this idea is the library of congress pilot project. While it is early days I think it could be quite an interesting scheme. There is by no means the wow factor of Photosynth, but imagine both working in combination …?

Photographing Pugilists, Brilliant Martial Arts Photography

If you are a fan of photography and martial arts then I have discovered the blog for you.

Susumu Nagao is a Japanese sports and Mixed Martial Arts photographer with a massive collection of beautiful and diverse photographs of just about every major MMA organization.

While I like bloodthirsty imagery as much as the next man and was once a martial artist (a mediocre one), after a good ten minutes looking through the stream I started yearning for a picture of kittens or a sunset! Brilliantly executed photographs though, you have to hand it to him he definitely captures the moment.
