I don’t think I have ever used “Program Mode”, I started out with “portrait” and “landscape” and progressed to Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual. I just had to look in the user guide to see what “Program Mode” does.
Apparently in Program Mode the camera selects a shutter speed and aperture for you but you have the ability to override these settings or “shift” them. So it is like a full auto that you can adjust. Neat, I will have to try it. Just shows I really ought to read the manual, eh?
If you do use Program Mode currently and want to learn more about the other modes you might be interested in the following podcast.

Don’t get me wrong, I like program mode. I like my 24-85mm zoom lens too, but I don’t want to use it for every shot I take. Sometimes I want a different look than what that lens can provide. The same goes for program mode.
