Photography Technique: Composite Images

This is a quick little experiment I tried after viewing Rebekkas fun multiplicity photographs.

I thought it would be more interesting if the composition involved some overlap, what I didn’t realise was there is a reason why people try NOT to have overlaps in these things. The overlaps make it HARD. Spot the mistakes in the full size image, I am sure you will have no bother finding them. Another tricky thing with this picture was the blind while down to stop the light varying, it was flapping about making the lighting completely alter the scene in each shot. I think I managed to equalise the layers and blend highlights quite well though.

While Microsoft Group Shot can handle merging “strips” of picture very very well, only Photoshop can really manage the overlapping style. For this picture I used a combination of semi-transparent layers for deleting background using the eraser to show the layer below through and the clone brush.

I’m not too ashamed of my first attempt though I think the long-exposure technique feels more authentic, more “photography” and less “photo manipulation”.

Have a go yourself, I would love to see your results!

I’ve been wanting to do one of these fore years (literally). Just never got around to it.

Pity I lost the shoe to my tripod grrrrr.

Not a big Rebekka fan personally, too many photographs of her scantily clad and she has an entourage he snipe at anyone who dares to add any type of critique.
