Photography Snobs

Jim over at slightly out of focus has definitely struck a cord with me with his post entitled “Beware the No-it-alls!!“. He explains “No-it-alls” are the people who only seem to be able to say

“NO, no, no. No that lens won’t work. No that tripod won’t work. No.”

You see them all the time, it seems the photography world is full of them. Those that say they only ever recommend “L” series lenses, wouldn’t be seen dead with a APS-C sensor, JPG is for amateurs, etc etc. As Jim says, many photography competitions are won by talented photographers with point and shoot pocket cameras; it’s not the tool that counts but what you do with it.

Check out the post, it’s a good ‘un.

There is a group on flikr dedicated to this its called its not the camera or something like that.
Chris on tips from the tops floors says he once had a wedding with disposable cameras and one of the guests was a professional and you could easily tell the ones he had taken.
As a person with lots of equipment i say its not the equipment its the photographer.
If you can’t take a photo without and L series lens then your a crap photographer.

Yeah I think the equipment can help by giving the photographer more choices or not holding the photographer back but even the best “auto” can’t make a bad photographer a good one.

Absolutely true. Good equipment can help make a good photographer better by facilitating the required tasks and allowing him or her to take photos that would be difficult at best with lesser equipment, but it still takes some talent to get a good photo out of it.
Keep up the good work, you guys got it goin’ on over here!
