Learning Photography Technique From Films

I expect you can learn a lot from observing the lighting and composition from films, “The Online Photographer” certainly thinks so:

What can photographers learn from watching films? I recently watched Steven Soderbergh’s movie “Bubble” and was so taken with the composition and lighting in many of the scenes that I performed some photographic analysis of my favorite shots by shooting screen captures of the images. You can see the results in a photoset on flickr.

I had a similar thought while watching “24″ the other day, I wonder how effective it would be trying to recreate their approach …. hmmm …

I notice this all the time in films. If you want to see some stunning composition check out Dr Strangelove, I couldn’t believe it when I watched it a few weeks a go again. You could pull stills out of that and they would make the most unbelievable photographs.

This same thing occured to me while watching CSI a week or so ago. In fact, it struck me hard enough that I posted about it.

Oh cool! I don’t watch CSI but I might start now to take a look at the camera work!
