Grid Screen for Canon

Mark often mentioned switching on my cameras grid for lining up shots straight, whatever I did I couldn’t find the option. It works out Canons do not have the option but you can buy an accessory!

Applepie: Grid Focusing Screen

Here is one of the cheapest upgrades that one can do to a Canon 5D – a grid focusing screen! Ever since switching from my Nikon D100 to a Canon 20D I have missed the grid focusing screen – a software function in the D100.

A friend pointed me to this accessory in the Canon line – Canon EE-D (Mfr# 0829B001). Cost is $34.95 at B&H.

Looks like it needs installation and the 350D one is quite pricey, wonder if it is worth it?

I use mine a lot. It’s very good for keeping horizons straight and buildings vertical. I’m not sure if I would want the camera messed with for the function. It’s a “nice to have”, but there’s always free transform in Photoshop to fall back on ;-)

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. Picassa has a really sweet straighten tool too.
