I have to try this. Check out this great timelapse (or is it time-lapse? I am seeing a red squiggle as if I spelt that wrong) video from TopLeftPixel.
Using my tripod and the software that was bundled with my Canon 350D (EOS capture, zoombrowser, etc) I should be able to have a go without requiring getting anything new or special. Anyone know if that is all I need?
Just a shame I don’t have a view like this to record!

I use image to AVI to make my videos
The video was catpured by a shot every 20 seconds for 27 hours (4860 frames). There is no direct way to script Capture to do anything even similar, not that your camera’s battery would be likely to last through 4k+ shots in a single sitting.
So you’re likely to need: someone to program you a script to automatically “click” capture whenever timed to do so, some form of DC power source, about 4GB of free disk space for the images (and that’s if saved at /small/), and some video compilation software.
Ok, with my 350d plugged into the laptop I do not need to use a memory card so got several gigs free. I wouldn’t need to do it every 20 seconds, once a minute would probably suffice and would likely do it for 24 hours (unsure why 27 hours in original).
I am going to look into this more and see what the programming options are. Ooh, I like a challenge :O)
Looks like the math is a bit off here. The video was done from 8pm until 11am the next morning, making it 15 hours or 2700 frames.
