Coloured Photography Light Using a Laptop

Stéphane de Luca has an interesting DIY coloured light – his Apple iBook!

I said to myself that finally, the screen of my iBook, which was there beside the camera could act as diffuser of light. Actually, if I direct its screen towards the scene, it emits by its broad surface of 10 inches by 9 a soft light which could lead me to an interesting result. I made some tests which encouraged me to seek more still. The articulation of the screen is perfect to be used as projector. I lay out the open iBook like a book, posed on the scene on its side (see photo of right-hand side).

This probably has most utility in macro photography but it shows some great creative uses for stuff you happen to have around anyway.

Another good use of a laptop screen is for a background in macro shots. Set the colour of the background to nicely set off the object you are shooting, it serves as both a backdrop and back-light simultaneously!
