I hope Canon has a consumer targeted full frame camera on the way. Something like the 30D but with a full frame sensor. I'd rob a bank to buy such a camera! The 5D is just too expensive. Shouldn't camera makers move from APS-C sensors to full frame on all cameras soon?

I think they will keep APS-C for the entry-level/consumer but I can certainly see full frame coming down into the mid-range

Cheers Chris, I think you may be right with your thoughts.

The most urgent update should replace the 1Ds MK II. It is still an unique DSLR with the highest resolution and the only one Pro-DSLR with a full frame (besides the 5D which is more a Pro-Amateur). But Nikon isn't far away (besides lacking a full frame on D2Xs) and even for a pro the release cycle should argue for a nearby release.

I would bet on a new 1Ds with nearly 20 MP, 2.5" or 3" LCD, a lighter but higher capacity battery. On the other hand this probably will not become a topselling product. There aren't a lot of people who are willing to spend 5K+ £ for a new camera as their 1Ds Mk II's aren't bad cameras. They will probably not catch a lot of new customers. Maybe some from the middle format pro's but the rest will be already Canon 1D* customers.

So, maybe Canon wants to earn more money and prefers to offer some new amateur/pro SLR like a 4D or a 6D. IMHO a replacement for the 5D is not necessary yet and the gaps between the 30D-5D-1D* aren't that wide to launch a new camera...

It will be quite interesting to see for what they decided to be right...

I found this post over at The Online Photographer, and thought you might be interested, being a Canon user and all: The Latest From The Rumor Mill

The rumors are flying, but definitely interesting.
