During my recent trip there were quite a few times when I could have done with a spare battery (had one on order but you know, sods law). Here are some tips for extending your battery life.
- fully discharge your batteries on occasion, even though modern batteries shouldn’t need it I hear it still helps
- charge batteries before you go out and keep your batteries topped up with an inexpensive car charger
- reduce the brightness on the LCD screen
- reduce your use of the flash – flash isn’t always necessary and can look nasty if used poorly anyway
- check you camera manual for “power saving” features
- batteries do not perform well in the cold so keep batteries warm (a lesson I learned the hard way!)
- leave the menu alone unless you really need to change something and preview later, using the LCD drains the battery
