PAD#124(Motion Blur)

I have said before, I do like my sky shots. I also love a nice little motion blur and a strange sense of overpowering perspective. This photo of the day has all that. unfortunately it has more, a nasty little mark in the top corner. I will remove it when I get around to it, I’ve only just got around to giving my camera a full clean, including the sensor, which was where the mark was. No dust but a nice wet mark. I think I must have got a little wet sometime.

Chris wrote in a post of his how Carl Purcell had one of his photos appear on an American stamp and how he must feel since it was a stock photo and he basically got nothing out of it. Well spare a thought for Kelly Fajack. Here he finds people violating his copyright and making money from one of his photos, literally!

The central African nation of Burundi have used one of his photos without his permission for their 10,000 Burundi franc note. The photo was not in the public domain; it was just used on Mr Purcells personal website.

Quite rightly he is suing the Burundi government, but to sue a government is quite tricky. Good look with that Carl, I hope you get a fair and just outcome.

PAD#123(Perch)I really like today’s shot. I really got into shooting wildlife. But it is more than just that today,
I love the sand texture of the stone. The nice green of it and the way it contrasts with the red of the … I guess it must be a Robin? I like the contrast between the top of the sculpture and the curve underneath, and I love that I did an ok job on the depth of field. The depth of field for me is still something that is partly luck. I really need to get to grips with it a bit more, so its not left up to fate.

Just a quick shot today. Not much thought about it, its more the symbolism I liked than anything.

Red Eye photo for blog If you’re like me you’d have thought that red eye is a problem, not something that you would want to have in your photo. Well it turns out that some smart fella has found a use for it, to tell your age. Yep your age.

Red eye is caused by the light being bounced off the blood vessels at the back of the eye. There are red-eye prevention techniques that have a pre-photo flash to get the iris to constrict and reduce the red-eye effect. It turns out though as you get older the muscles that constrict the iris are weaker and don’t do as good job. So basically the more red-eye that appears, the older you are. Its probably not that simple in practice, read more about it here at the Discovery website.

For me I still think I will continue to try to get rid of it!

I love to take cloud shots, but haven’t yet had the opportunity to take shots of a rainbow, let alone a fire rainbow. A fire rainbow is apparently one of the rarest types of rainbow, and boy does it look cool. Here is a photo of the phenomenon and it must be genuine its reported by snopes.

PAD#121(Blue Flower)

More flowers today. I chose this for a similar reason to yesterdays photo, the colour. where as yesterdays has a distinct lack of colour in the background, this has a nice pattern of red and green all nicely blurred as to not detract from the nice violet of the flower.

Life is short, I went back the next day and this flower was shrivelled and dead.

PAD#120(Yellow Flower) Another naturalist photo today, I keep wanting to say naturist :).  There was no particular reason I took the shot, but the main reason I chose it over the other shots I took that day was the colour, it has the cut out sort of look to it, sort of black and white with just the yellow of the flowers showing through, I can assure you though that it is all natural colour

PAD#105(gaze)TongueOne thing I have discovered I love to photograph is wildlife. I never would have thought that when I started. I think it’s the added challenge of the ‘hunt’. Whereas with most of my photos I can go back and take it again if it doesn’t look the way I like it, with wildlife photography each time is unique. I feel I’ve improved with my wildlife photography but still have quite a lot to learn.

If you like my wildlife pictures then check out these brilliant wildlife shots from John Hyde.

PAD#119(ECTO 1)

Today’s photo was a little experimental. Trying to get a realistic look from a model. And if viewed small it does come off quite well. Its just your standard 12inch model, on a black felt mat. I put some strange IKEA mirror tile behind it to reflect the flash and give it some interesting lighting in the background. When viewed on a small scale it does look quite good, but when viewed full size you can see that it is actually plastic.
