Medieval photo op coming up in Nottingham

Saturday 26th to Sunday 27th may at Rufford abbey Nottingham England, there is a medieval weekend. If its anything like lasts years living history weekend this should be great. This year each different era seems to have its own week end. Well it was kind of sureal seeing a Falklands Marine talk to a Roman Centurion.

Medieval, now what’s that? I’m not sure what they look like, i think this maybe from lasts years medieval demonstration.

Other Living history weekends for different eras are planet for later in the year.

How to secure your camera equipment when Flying

The simple answer is to buy a gun…

Nothing fancy, a starting pistol will suffice, just something so you can declare you are transporting a firearm when you check in.
This then opens up a whole new world of security for your luggage. Allowing better locks and better tracking.
Its all gone into here , not sure if i dare try it though, if it goes wrong you could end up talking to mister jelly finger.

It does make me question though that if your luggage is that insecure that things could be stolen from it, whats to stop somebody putting stuff in it.

Is it a hornet? well its not a bee and I’m pretty sure it’s not a wasp. I chose this photo for all is gnarly natural textures.

I like to play with perspective and depth of field, this shot was a last minute one when returning to the car after a nice long walk looking for a photo.

This wasn’t my intended shot for the day, the plan was to photo some more windmills all of which came out very nice indeed but nothing too different from my PAD of the other day. This was unique amongst my photos of that day. I do love the others though.

Why I buy Sigma

From what Chris has said, you might think that I am sigma‘s bitch and you might be wondering why. Well I’m not entirely sure myself but here is why I chose Sigma as my first choice brand.

It started with the fact that it was the brand of choice for my father, a man not noted for putting quality over cost but I liked the look and feel of the old lenses of his, and it was Chris that said sigma has a quite good reputation these days. The time came when I wanted to use more than my canon kit lens, and unfortunately the older sigma lenses did not work 100 percent on the EOS 350D. I started to look for what I needed. My requirements were something that covered my existing range while going longer. Whilst looking round I found the sigma site to be very useful, well laid out and full of information. With a few searches on the net I found an example of the lens. That was my first Sigma purchase, so it was natural that after a fortunate find in the 18-200mm I was going to look at sigma first when looking for my macro. Again the Sigma site and specs helped me decide on their 50mm.

When I stared to look into buying a powerful zoom I pretty much decided on Sigma, because I liked what I’d seen, but I checked out prices and specs and found sigma was the way to go here as well. After getting some advice from the guys in the sigma group on flickr I plumped for the BIGMA – the 50-500mm – and was very pleased. So when it came to buying a wide-angle, I looked nowhere else than sigma, and picked the widest thing they sell.

Now all the lenses I have bought have been wonderful, however, Chris has tried some in stores and found them a little wanting, even the same models as mine, so all I can say to that is they are very very good, but apparently there is a little luck involved.

Should I need another lens, I will sill look at sigma, but chris has scared me a little. Luckily there is not much in the way of lenses I need for now …

I found inspiration today in a BBQ. I was hoping to get some hot coals but they didn’t seem to glow enough or be that interesting. It wasn’t till the appearance of a Turkish kebab that the colour appeared.

It is strange when you realise how little you know yourself. From my photos I’ve discovered I tend towards the decay and the dead from time to time. This photo is made more poignant from the fact that i only shot the budding flower days earlier. How life is fleeting. Makes you think.

This takes me back to my youth. The Dipsacus or Teasle used back in the day in the wool industry to tease wool, basically to comb in into nice manageable threads. Coming from an old wool town I know this. Actually this is the first time I have ever seen one growing, they are normally dried by the time I see them. I like the colour, when dried they’re a wheaty, light yellow colour, but here they remind me more of a thistle with the green with a hint of purple.

All I need now is a few sheep and I can start making some cloth.
