7.7 megapixel Camera Phone!?

OK now this is just getting crazy, a 7.7 mp phone!?

See more at Engadget and Slashphone

Samsung’s B500 cameraphone packs 7.7 megapixels and DMB to boot … they manage to keep the phone reasonably thin at 0.7-inches, while still tossing in a 3x optical zoom, video out, and a T-Flash slot. No word on price or availability

No doubt it will take a while before it hits the UK.

You’ll be able to blow up really bad grainy images all the way up to A3!

I am sure all the people who use them for … uh … intimate .. photographs will love it, especially the zoom feature.

Now I like camera phones, and a optical zoom seems like a really good idea. But do you really need 7mp camera phone? They are for random, opportunist serendipity, not *serious* photography. And think of the memory card you will need to store all the pictures of your cat and your friends getting drunk, etc.

This smells of “let’s do it just because we can”

Its still a camera phone, its not the mega pixels its the lens that counts.

true enough. I think the new Nokia N70 has a karl zeiss lens in it, now that’s interesting.

They are handy, though the majority of photos on mine are as Chris says of drunk friends. I would rather see them improve video quality, you can’t have too many videos of col falling over or Dave setting himself on fire…..
